Rumor roundup broken down by likelihood

The Green Room blog has compiled a list of Apple tablet rumors, something that shouldn’t be too hard even for a PC fan today, given the overwhelming hype and speculation coming from every corner of the world. However, instead of posting a simple list with one rumor on top of another, the blog in question did something a bit more interesting.

The picture available to the left (click to enlarge) is what we’re talking about. The mockup is not new, but the “visual rumor roundup” is.

“Above is a preview of our visual rumour roundup for the Apple Tablet,” the blog says. “For the full post and a higher resolution version head over to our new site at http://tgrblog2beta.tumblr.com/,” the latest Green Room update says. The Green Room (TGR) is compiled by a small group of experienced writers who, according to the site’s “about” page, “love to write about interesting stuff.”

There wasn’t much writing involved this time, nor should there have been. Almost every Apple fan is quite aware of the hype surrounding the unconfirmed Apple tablet, therefore also up-to-date with every rumor. These are broken down in four main categories in the GRB visual rumor roundup: very likely; likely; unlikely; very unlikely.

While some believe Apple will release a tablet no larger than 7 inches on the diagonal, there is serious reason to believe the device will employ a 10-inch screen. The likelihood of this being the case is fair, according to the Green Room blog. Also likely are rumors of the tablet being powered by a PA Semi chip; featuring a multi-touch version of Apple’s iWork productivity suite; shipping in two different finishes; offering advanced gesture-based control; supporting multiple 3G carriers; being called iSlate; and launching in March.

Very likely rumors, GRB believes, are those of a January 27 unveiling, a 2010 Q2 (second quarter) launch, the $1,000 price point, the aluminum casing, a unique UI typical to a tablet device, App Store support, and e-reader functionality for newspapers, books and magazines.

Looking at less certain aspects of the yet-unconfirmed Apple tablet, the visual rumor roundup lists the OLED screen and the front-facing camera as unlikely. Even more so, in GRB’s opinion, are rumors of a 3D navigation through the tablet’s OS, a pixel Qi screen, and the tablet running iPhone OS.

Softpedia note

Although Apple will have the final say in this, the visual rumor roundup compiled by GRB seems to fall in line with recent leaks, which, Softpedia believes, are plausible. Moreover, if Apple is indeed launching a tablet PC soon, most of the specs listed here should certainly make it into the device. Without them, the product just wouldn’t be worthy of the Apple logo. Of course, you needn’t take this into account when we ask you: do you agree with GRB’s view of the upcoming Apple tablet?
