Alison Sweeney, star of “Days of Our Life,” needed a good shove to get her body back in shape. That came with The Biggest Loser in 2007 and a word of advice from her loving husband. Now, 30 pounds thinner, Alison is happy to impart knowledge on how to change your life for the better.

Featured on this month’s cover of Self Magazine, the actress admits she’s not only thinner but much happier too since she was made to realize she was eating the wrong kinds of food.

Of course, now she also works out more, making sure not a day goes by without her doing some form of workout.

“In my early 20s, I’d eat a tub of lowfat ice cream and be like, ‘Why am I having weight problems?’” the actress tells Self. She’s always had weight issues, saying she’s a size 12 at her largest.

Her husband was the one who broke it down to her: she was a beautiful woman but, if she wanted to change a thing or two about her appearance, she had to overhaul her diet and get more exercise.

She says the moment she heard these words was a turning point for her: she decided she wanted to be healthier and, at the same time, lose weight and improve her confidence in herself.

When she joined The Biggest Loser, she learned just the ways to achieve that. Also then, she realized how “ignorant” she’d been until that moment.

“I wasn’t eating the right kinds of calories. I didn’t know about healthy carbs such as brown rice and lentils. Now I eat small meals throughout the day: oatmeal with cinnamon to start, fruit and yogurt as a snack, and vegetables or salad with chicken or tuna, and a healthy carb, like a yam, for lunch,” she shares for the mag.

“I avoid carbs at dinner and usually have a salad – I love lettuce. I’m a rabbit!” she gushes.

Of course, she also works out whenever she has time.

“I maintain by going to Spin four or five days a week. I love that I can get a solid butt-kicking in 40 minutes. I also strength train two or three times a week,” she says.

She also does yoga, but not on a regular basis. However, when she finds the time for it, she looks forward to one such class.
