Alienware has apparently confirmed that it's planning on releasing new Steam Machines every year and that their hardware can't be upgraded once they’re purchased.

Valve has revealed quite a lot of brand new details concerning its Steam Machines initiative, which will essentially be compact PCs that come with the SteamOS operating system and are geared towards gaming.

One of the largest companies in terms of gaming PCs, Alienware, has revealed that it's going to debut its own Steam Machines later this year and now General Manager Frank Azor has shared some more details with TrustedReviews.

Apparently, there will be new Steam Machines launched every year and, rather surprisingly, customers won't be able to upgrade the hardware of the devices after buying them.

"Lifecycle wise, consoles update every five, six, seven years, we will be updating our Steam Machines every year," Azor said. "There will be no customization options, you can’t really update it. There will be some configuration options when you purchase it, maybe you can get a faster CPU, maybe some more memory something like that."

Those who want more power, however, should look towards the bigger Alienware products, according to Azor.
