When it announced the Alienware M11x, Dell has managed to introduce a new breed of gaming laptops to the world, and the company is now set to refresh this model to feature updated specs, making it much more desirable for gamers everywhere.

According to Dell-Lab, the website that managed to get the preliminary specs of the next M11x incarnation, Dell has decided to swat the outdated Core 2 Duo CPU that powered its laptop with Intel's latest Sandy Bridge processor.

As a result, users can now choose between the 1.4GHz clocked Core i5-2537M, the 1.5GHz Core i7-2617M and the i7-2657M that works at 1.6GHz.

All these have dual processing cores and support Turbo Boost as well as HyperThreading and have a TDP of only 17W, which, combined with the 8-cell 63WHr battery should provide enough juice for some prolonged gaming sessions.

The rest of the Alienware machine can be setup to feature up to 8GB of 1333MHz DDR3 memory, various 7200RPM HDD options ranging in size from 250GB to 750GB or with a 256GB Samsung P810 SSD as well as with WWAN 3G or LTE/WiMax 4G broadband connectivity.

The screen is the same 11.6-inch white LED-backlit glossy panel display that can push up to 1366x768 pixels, but, unfortunately, the source wasn't able to find out what the GPU options are.

Right now, the Alienware M11x is available with an Nvidia GeForce 335M GPU that is paired together with 1GB of video buffer, but this will most probably be swapped for a 400-series or 500-series Nvidia discrete graphics card.

The new M11x will use the same red and black colorway as its predecessor and is expected to be released sometime in early April.

No details regarding pricing are available at this time, but the system won't probably be much more expensive than the current version of the laptop.
