New 17" portables deliver more fps than ever

A lot of time has passed since I last spoke about Alienware. And I'm generally pretty glad to tell you about them since I like what they are doing in the PC business. But as we know, it doesn't take long for Alienware to roll out something new so I didn't have to wait a long time.

During CES, Alienware showcased two new notebooks, both of them being oriented towards gaming (Doh!). And by the looks of it, they are weeks away from mass releasing the new mobile rigs. The massive portables use 17" LCDs and come filled with gaming parts. However, they look (and feel) quite different. In fact, the m5790 and the m9750 pack some very different hardware.

The m5790 is faster on the CPU side and features a silver finish. It comes with an overclocked Core 2 Duo mobile CPU, a 1920 * 1200 screen and two hard drives (can be configured to run in Raid mode). It has an X1900 mobile GPU from Ati and that's enough to run just about any game that exists at the moment.

On the other hand, the m9750 spots two 7950GTX GPUs that come ready for SLI operation. It too has two Raid-able hard drives and even includes a TV tuner and surround sound. On top of that, both laptops come finished in Alienware's specific style (and that has to count for something). When Dell decided to buy Alienware I was afraid the madness from their products will disappear but it seems that the latest products are still worthy of the most respected brand name inside the gaming communities.
