Alienware Area-51, Area-51 ALX and Aurora, the award-winning line of desktops manufactured by Alienware, a leading producer of high-performance notebooks, desktops and entertainment systems, are offered by the company with an ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2, considered to be the most powerful graphics card at the moment. The computing power of the Radeon HD 4870 X2 rises up to 2.4 teraflops, while the 1,600 stream processing units and the 2GB of dedicated GDDR5 memory offer levels of performance that haven't been reached before in either PC gaming or HD video playback.

The new card packs 2GB of GDDR5 memory, the fastest one available today, offering higher speeds, increased bandwidth and high-frame rates. The most lifelike graphics ever are delivered by this card through DirectX10.1 support, high-performance anisotropic filtering and 24X custom filter anti-aliasing. Background images, environments and facial features are now rendered more true-to-life and with heightened clarity, enabling enhanced gaming experience. Alienware also allows its users to double the performance, and the three desktops support dual ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 cards in an ATI CrossFireX configuration.

"The unprecedented performance of the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 is a perfect match for the Alienware Area-51, Area-51 ALX and Aurora desktops," said Frank Azor, Executive Vice-President for Alienware's Product and Marketing Groups. "Alienware users are going to love having this much power at their fingertips."

Entertainment enthusiasts have not been left aside either, as there are new powerful tools at their disposal for experiencing and enjoying HD content. Blu-ray movies can be played in full 1080p, while HD games and other media are displayed at resolutions as high as 2560 x 1600. The ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 also comes with Enhanced DVD Upscaling, enabling users to watch standard-definition DVDs at near high-definition quality.

"AMD's intense focus on performance and technology leadership continues with the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 making it a perfect match for such advanced systems as Alienware desktops," said Matt Skynner, Vice President, Marketing, AMD Graphics Products Group. "Together, ATI and Alienware are working to redefine expectations for graphics performance and realism in next generation games and beyond, part of AMD's commitment to giving gamers The Ultimate Visual Experience."

Alienware has also published a video that shows real-time benchmarking results for the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 graphics card, while a dialog between Alienware and AMD about the latest in graphics technology runs in the background.
