Boutique PC vendor Alienware is reported to encounter some functional issues with its gaming notebook systems in the m15x series. It appears that the extremely expensive mobile PC is constantly
overheating. More than that, one of the m15x reported that his machine would develop fissures in the frame.

As you can see in the attached images, the notebook's frame started snapping apart in the left side of the keyboard with no apparent reason, allegedly. The notebook owner claimed that he has not subjected the device to any type of physical stress.

However, this is not the first time the m15x owners would complain about the quality of the portable gaming machine after thy had bled significant amounts of money. You may remember the episode with the notebook's promised lighting areas that had subsequently been changed in a manner that did not respect the pre-ordering advertisements.

According to a forum post at Notebook Review, the company claims that the quality checks its engineers performed in-house were not able to reproduce neither the overheating, nor the out-of-the-blue case cracking.

"Though we have tested the machines thoroughly, we have not experienced this issue at Alienware; however, customer satisfaction is extremely important to us, and we will continue to investigate and see if we can duplicate the issue. Once we can isolate the issue and how to address it, we will let our customer service technicians know immediately so they can help users that may be experiencing this issue," claimed Steve Lopez, Alienware's support forums administrator in a forum post.

It seems that Alienware has had some incidents with the n15x series of notebooks, despite the fact that it's a highly-priced item. For instance, you may remember the users' complaining about the fact that Alienware had shipped notebooks with partly functional lighting in the "six distinct lighting zones," as announced.

I recently bought the alienware m15x with ALL the extras at a total cost of just over £2600.
overall i' am impressed with the notebooks performance and power, until the laptop gets hot! after about 1 1/2 - 2 hours of it being on with the charge cable pluged in areas of the notebook become very hot, the performance is greatly decreased/lost, including the ability to watch HD content and then after a further 4 hours of being on the bottom will be roasting and youve then got the performance of a snail. Fun Fun Fun however this is the Only problem i have encountered and i'am still impressed overall. i have not come across any fissures or snapping due to the heat that has been claimed however the plastic composite used does seem very brittle and week in areas. the blu-ray ability is great and playing Crysis perfectly on the highest setting is also very milky however before i can do either of these i have to make sure the laptop is'nt overheated ,which is why its still lacks the practicality needed to have a truely useable HD streaming notebook . but until there is a updated version or some competition for it, it is the best HD notebook soloution available
