SEGA has announced that it plans to release a new game, named Aliens vs. Predator, the first in an upcoming series of Aliens titles that have been licensed by Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising. The game is set to be developed by Rebellion, which has also created the first title in the series, and should come to the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the PC in the early months of 2010.

Aliens vs. Preadator is set on the planet BG-386 where a colony that focuses on mining discovers an ancient pyramid which, of course, should contain one of the biggest threats that the galaxy has seen.

As a group of Predators converge on the planet, the Aliens are awakened and Colonial Marines are the best chance that humanity has in this fight. As with the first game in the series, which was released way back in 1999, each of the three playable races gets its own campaign, built on a solid story and on very different play styles.

The Colonial Marines are armed to the teeth, yet slower and vulnerable to the quickness of the Aliens or the stealth of the Predators. The Aliens are quick and organic but need to choose carefully their path to the targets, while the Predators are technologically superior but vulnerable to swarming tactics.

Jason Kingsley, who is the CEO and the creative director at Rebellion, said that “The original Aliens vs. Predator game was a landmark title for Rebellion, and we are both proud and excited to be revisiting the license with SEGA and Fox L&M. Our new technology will enable us to produce a truly terrifying and visceral experience.”

Rebellion also plans on offering three-way multiplayer for the title, with players able to take on any role they want while watching out for the special capabilities of the other races.
