After spending quite a lot of time in development, Aliens: Colonial Marines is finally nearing its completion, with the staff at Gearbox Software working hard to make sure that the experience won't disappoint the legions of Aliens fans.

Sega had quite a few projects centered around the Aliens series, but only the squad-based first-person shooter that is Colonial Marines is now nearing completion, albeit after a pretty long time spent in development, during which no concrete details were released.

As such, Gearbox Software is now talking about the project much more freely, and confirmed just what players can expect from the new game, over on the PlayStation Blog.

"You’re going to see a lot of growth in terms of what you expect from a Gearbox game that is co-op focused," Gearbox Chief Creative Officer Brian Martel. "Obviously, things like the look and atmosphere belong to the Aliens universe, but underneath you’re going to get a sense of something that is totally Gearbox."

Martel emphasized that fans of the Aliens series shouldn't be too worried about the game not respecting the franchise, as the studio has always tried to satisfy its customers.

"If you take a look at our track record on working with IPs, whether it’s Half Life or James Bond, we’ve been true and honest with what it needs to be. We’re one of the best at that, looking at what gamers want and expect from the license and giving it to them."

Martel also highlights that fans will encounter quite a lot of surprises throughout the story, many concerning secondary characters from the movie, while people new to the Aliens experience are also going to have a great time with the new game,

"It’s important to have these little signposts or fan service moments, such as finding out what happened to Burke or seeing what happened to Hudson when he got pulled down. But then you also have people coming in who might never have seen the movies so we’re bringing something for everybody."

Aliens: Colonial Marines is currently scheduled to appear on the PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, as well as the Nintendo Wii U, in spring of next year.
