Sega, besides preparing more and more Sonic games and trying to release a Dreamcast collection for current generation consoles, is also preparing a big announcement concerning Aliens: Colonial Marines.

In case you haven't heard about the game, the title has been in development at Gearbox Software for quite some time, but the studio revealed that other games became a priority, including Borderlands or the upcoming Duke Nukem Forever.

Aliens: Colonial Marines was originally announced back in 2006, and has been silent for quite some time.

Now, after a lone screenshot appeared from Gearbox back in September, Sega's vice president of marketing and sales, Alan Pritchard, has confirmed that a big announcement will arrive soon.

"We've been working closely with Gearbox behind the scenes, and we'll be able to tell you a lot about that in the next couple of months."

It seems that Sega is still bent on seeing the project done, and is confident that Gearbox will deliver a quality title.

Not a lot is known about this Aliens game, except that it will be a squad-based, first person shooter, which will see players take on the role of marines sent to investigate an Aliens-infested space ship in order to find Ellen Ripley and the other heroes from the Aliens movies.

The marines will be faced with different types of aliens, ranging from the surprising facehuggers to warriors, scouts or drones, not to mention the big queens.

Aliens: Colonial Marines is reported to use the Unreal Engine 3, and will feature both single and multiplayer modes, including co-operative split-screen and competitive ones.

The game is set to be published by Sega for platforms like the PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and the Nintendo DS.

Seeing as how it's been a long time coming, it would be nice to finally see some more details about Aliens: Colonial Marines and, if we're lucky, a release date.

Have you lost fate in this game or are you excited about the upcoming announcement?
