The deadly Alien will challenge players to think differently

Alien: Isolation, the upcoming first-person survival game from Creative Assembly, will feature a deadly Xenomorph alien that's a lot like the one seen in the very first Alien movie many years ago and, according to developer Creative Assembly, its behavior is dynamic, as it reacts to player actions and choices.

Games based on the Alien movies in the past have revolved mostly around throwing plenty of different Xenomorphs at players and tasking them with mowing down the hordes of various creatures.

Alien: Isolation, however, wants to deliver an interactive experience that's much more similar to the Alien movie from 1979, allowing fans to take control of Amanda Ripley, Ellen Ripley's daughter, as she explores a space station that's home to just a single but still deadly Xenomorph.

According to Creative Assembly's Alistair Hope, the Alien will be a meaningful opponent, just like it was in the first movie.

"We wanted the player to experience what it would be like to encounter Ridley Scott’s original Alien. Physically huge and imposing, intelligent, and merciless. A creature that dominated the screen and commanded the player’s respect, and one that lived on in the player’s subconscious when it wasn’t on the screen," he told PS blog.

The Alien's behavior will also be dynamic, reacting to player actions, without featuring pre-determined paths through a level.

"Our Alien is dynamic and reactive — it doesn’t run under pre-prescribed paths or scripts. Instead, it uses its senses to hunt the player down. It reacts to the player’s actions and movements. For example: the player can sprint. This obviously allows the player to move through the world faster, but running also generates a lot of noise and that will attract the Alien to the player’s presence."

Besides doing certain actions, using various objects, like a flashlight to make sense of where you're going, or relying too much on different items, will also have an impact on the Alien's behavior.

"Alongside being dynamic, the Alien also adjusts its behavior based on the player’s choices. As the player develops certain abilities through the game, so too will the Alien change its tactics in response. For example, the more you use an item or device, the less effective it will be as the Alien adapts its behavior."

Alien: Isolation will make its debut on October 7 around the world. It's set to appear for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, but not for the Wii U.
