Gamers need to decide which risks they are willing to take

The development team at The Creative Assembly says that it wants to create a complex layer of experiences around Alien: Isolation that will reward those players who are willing to explore the dangerous areas of the environments in search of more items.

John McKellan, who handles the leading of the development process for the user interface, tells VG247 that, “By the time you reach this point in the game you’ll be more aware of your environment and more aware of what else is at play, so you’ll be able to decide whether trying to reach a room is worth the risk or whether you can come at it from another angle.”

He adds, “That gives players ownership over their experience because someone can play through the game without doing that exploration, but there will be rewards if you’re a bit braver.”

It will be interesting to see how many players are so focused on keeping main character Amanda Ripley safe and able to escape any threat that they avoid trying to explore more than is strictly necessary and how many want to feel empowered by exploring the entire game world.

The Creative Assembly says that it wants to recreate the atmosphere of the original Alien movie and that in many ways, the monsters they are creating are scarier than what the gaming world has seen so far.

Isolation has been rumored for some time and the initial details suggest an interesting and complex title.

The only potential issue is the fact that The Creative Assembly lacks experience with this genre of games and has made its name on the very different Total War strategy series.

Alien: Isolation will be launched in the final quarter of this year and will be offered on the PC, the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the Xbox One from Microsoft and current-gen consoles.
