Players can also compete against the clock instead of going through the story

Alien: Isolation, the next game from Creative Assembly and Sega, features not just a story mode but also a special timed one in which players are presented with a situation from which they need to escape as fast as possible.

Alien: Isolation sees players take on the role of Amanda Ripley, daughter of Alien movie protagonist Ellen Ripley, who explores a space station that's been torn apart by a deadly Xenomorph.

The story is set to take her throughout the station, and developer Creative Assembly has already emphasized that players will spend a lot of time to complete the main plot.

What's more, for those who prefer bite-sized experiences, a special timed mode is also included in Isolation, which aims at delivering a simpler and straightforward adventure in which players need to escape as fast as possible.

While talking with GRTV, Creative Assembly's Al Hope has described the mode as a really intense one where the timed nature makes everything even more thrilling.

"It's a contained, really intense experience," Hope explains. "Where you simply have to survive and escape. It's timed based, so you're up against the clock. It puts a lot of pressure on you, so you have to make decision under enormous amounts of pressure. And obviously the alien is around. It's just a distillation of that core alien experience in a different mode."

Hope also goes on to say that during both the story mode and the timed one players will interact with other survivors on the space station that range from unpredictable to desperate, so it won't be just Amanda, the alien, and a few synthetics on board.

He explains that the core AI system has been built to allow for various emergent stories, meaning survivors aren't scripted to behave in a certain way during each playthrough or situation.

"Because everything is running under this core AI. We have this amazing opportunity for emergent stories to occur. As these entities interact with each other and confrontation suddenly spark from nowhere."

Alien: Isolation is going to debut on October 7 worldwide for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox one platforms. Fans can already pre-order it, and by doing that they'll net different bonuses, such as the Crew Expendable mission that chronicles adventures from the actual movie with protagonists like Ellen Ripley.

You can expect to hear more about Alien: Isolation at Gamescom next month, but until then, check out some more screenshots in the gallery below.
