A video from EGX London has popped on online, showing a few minutes of gameplay from The Creative Assembly's upcoming first-person horror survival video game, Alien: Isolation.

The video comes from Eurogamer and showcases the Survivor Mode from the upcoming game, going through the demo level available on the show floor for attendees to try out.

The general purpose of the game is to go about unnoticed and make your way to the level exit, in order to secure your escape, rather than heroically pulling out a minigun and mowing down hordes of aliens.

The general mood is dark and intense

The video shows some of the features of the upcoming game, such as carefully evaluating your environment and finding places to hide in, as well as making use of the motion tracker in order to stealthily get around and avoid detection.

As the game isn't an action-packed shooter and confrontations with a Xenomorph are most likely to end up unfavorably, Alien: Isolation focuses on employing cunning and subterfuge instead of drawing out the big guns and spraying and praying.

But when all that fails, you'll be able to use your weapons to scare the beast off, as the player in the video does by shooting it in the face with a flame thrower. That, however, will only prove to be a temporary solution to the problem, so you'll need to stay on your toes and move hastily.

The video shows how the development team was inspired by the general industrial look of the original Alien movie by Ridley Scott, using a similar type of overall art direction and moody, low-light environments to convey tension in making a run for your life.

A change in direction

The development team at The Creative Assembly intends to make the survival horror first-person shooter a completely different game from any of the entries in the series so far.

Publisher Sega has already taken a lot of flak for the Aliens: Colonial Marines fiasco, and this time around the horror franchise's fans might just get the game they want.

Instead of focusing on the more action-oriented route that the entries in the Alien series chose to take, The Creative Assembly is going to the roots of the entire thing. Instead of being pitted against a ton of Xenomorphs, you'll only be faced with one, but you won't be able to kill it.

The weapons you'll be able to use will only be effective against other human survivors and against androids, with the point of the game being avoiding confrontation altogether.

Alien: Isolation is coming out on October 7, 2014, worldwide, headed to the PC, the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 home entertainment systems from Sony, and the Xbox 360 and Xbox One home consoles from Microsoft.
