Don't expect Creative Assembly to change the recipe

Creative Assembly, the studio behind the recent Alien: Isolation first-person survival experience, already has ideas for a sequel and its plot is being debated inside the team, according to the developer, but one thing's for sure: it will keep the survival focus, instead of going towards an action-oriented direction.

Aliens: Isolation launched at the beginning of this fall and delivered a pretty frantic survival experience that placed a much bigger emphasis on the actual Xenomorph alien and its devastating power. Players controlled Amanda Ripley, the daughter of Alien movie protagonist Ellen Ripley, as she made her way across a space station infested with the deadly creature.

The title earned critical acclaim and became quite popular with fans of the series, who grew utterly disappointed with the Aliens: Colonial Marines experience.

A sequel is coming

So far, neither Creative Assembly nor Sega has talked about a sequel, but now Lead GameDesigner Gary Napper has decided to shed some light on how the next title is shaping up.

Napper has talked with AvPGalaxy and confirmed that there are quite a few talks inside the studio already about the plot of the next game, as Napper himself believes that the story left the door open for more adventures for Amanda. Bear in mind that, if you haven't completed the game, his statements contain a few spoilers.

"The plot for a sequel is a daily topic in the studio sometimes. People have their own ideas for where it should go, our writers have some solid concepts and yes, we do have a great opportunity to continue her story. I personally think that Amanda did not get infected in the hive, as when she wakes, the closest egg remains closed," he explains.

Expect the same survival focus

However, while certain things aren't nailed down, Napper emphasizes that the next game won't go towards the action-oriented route, as he still wants a survival experience that’s slow and atmospheric, instead of a quick, generic romp that diminishes what Isolation actually achieved. He exemplifies the statement by saying that Isolation 2 won't be the Aliens movie to the Alien original.

"I think the action oriented 'Aliens' style game is very different from what Isolation is. If we made a sequel I would like to stick to the same terrifying single Alien approach but do more with the environment and interactivity within it," he explains.

As such, you can expect to see Amanda return, only this time in an even more impressive adventure. Until then, check out our review of Alien: Isolation.
