Alessandra Ambrosio Is Really Really Pregnant

I must admit I had a hard time believing it, and it took a while before I managed to get used to the idea that Alessandra Ambrosio is really pregnant. And yes, seeing a growing baby bump on a supermodel is always a bit of a shock at first, so I suppose we'll just have to get used to seeing her figure become more and more curvy. I'm not saying this is a bad thing - not by far. Judging by these photos of Alessandra, pregnancy agrees with her - only trouble is, it's probably causing her to lose sight of a few things, such as waxing her legs. No, don't look at me like that - I'm not being mean, I simply find it shocking to see hairy legs on a woman who makes a living out of projecting and selling a perfect image of herself to the world. And yes, it might be childish to actually express that surprise - but then again, I think many of you will be able to relate to what I'm saying.

And yes, seeing supermodels get pregnant is a great first step down the road that dismantles that "untouchable, unbreakable" perspective most of us have about supermodels. They're not all anorexic, not all of them are taking drugs and yes, some of them really want to be mothers. In an age in which everything in society tells us that we have to be thin to be successful, the "pregnancy epidemics" that seems to have struck the world of celebrities may actually have an upside, in the sense that we may witness a slow change of mentality. In the end, maternal instincts seem to trump being skinny and eating an apple a day and not much else except that.

So, fingers crossed for Alessandra. I hope everything will go well for her and that she'll be healthy and on her feet during the entire pregnancy. As for the hairy legs part, it's also a question of mentality - and most of all, expectations. We're all used to seeing supermodels groomed to the last hair, looking glamorous and 100% perfect all the time. Which is, of course, something they carefully promote themselves - although this definitely doesn't make it healthy. So, if Alessandra needs a break from her job of looking flawlessly, what better pretext than being pregnant?
