Alert Logic, a provider of Security-as-a-Service solutions for the cloud, has released its Spring 2013 State of Cloud Security Report. The study, conducted over a six-month period, highlights the impact of attacks on enterprise data centers and cloud hosting providers.

According to the company, 52% of cloud hosting providers have experienced web application attacks, while 39% of enterprise environments have been impacted by such attacks.

However, attacks on enterprise data centers are more sophisticated than the ones against cloud hosting providers.

In addition, the range of threats faced by cloud hosting providers is narrower. For instance, cloud hosting companies experience an average of 1.8 incident types, while enterprise environments experience 2.5 types of incidents.

“The data confirms what we suspected. Web application attacks continue to be a serious threat across all environments,” said Stephen Coty , director, security research with Alert Logic.

“These types of threats are easily launched through automated tools and should be a top concern for any organization that is serious about security.”
