This week the tablet will make it into retail, on Wednesday to be precise

Taking the initiative from British supermarket giant Tesco, Aldi launched a tablet of its own a while back, which reportedly proved extremely popular with consumers.

After the success, the retail chain is now targeting the lofty kids market, as it plans to introduce a 7-inch child-friendly slate priced under $100 / €73 ($99 / €72 to be precise). And that’s not all, the tablet will run Android 4.4 KitKat out the box, which is pretty sweet.

Other specifications include the 1024 x 600 pixel res, 1.5GHz dual-core CPU and 4GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card).

The slate also takes advantage of a colorful rubberized case, akin to the one offered by Samsung with its Galaxy Tab 3 Kids Edition tablet.

Aldi will pre-bundle the tablet with a host of kiddie-safe software that will appeal to toddlers, pre-schoolers and older kids alike.

The manufacturer of the slate is not mentioned, although it doesn't appear to be Bauhn or Medion, device-makers Aldi has worked with in the past.

Speaking of which, earlier this month I told you Medion was gearing up to push the Android 4.4 KitKat update to three of its tablet offerings, including Aldi’s. So if you want to pick up a cheap KitKat tab, this week you’ll be able to find one at Aldi’s.
