The handset is expected to be launched in early 2012

Google's Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich announcement triggered mixed feedback from the major smartphone manufacturers such as LG, Samsung and Motorola.

While some of these handset makers are still assessing the situation and struggle to come up with a coherent plan to deliver the latest iteration of Android on their devices, a few of them are certain to launch new Ice Cream Sandwich devices in Q1 2012.

Motorola and Asus have already confirmed they will announce several new Ice Cream Sandwich products in early 2012, but no one was expecting Alcatel to come up with a similar statement.

Alcatel does not have a long history with Android devices, but the company thinks it of a comeback with its Alcatel One Touch 995 smartphone, which is scheduled to be announced next year.

According to the folks over at NieuweMobile, the smartphone is equipped with a 1.4 GHz single core processor and a large 4.3-inch capacitive display.

Initially, the smartphone will be delivered with Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread, but Alcatel confirmed that the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade will be pushed shortly after the official announcement, which is scheduled for next year's Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona.

It is also worth mentioning that the Alcatel One Touch 995 will be bundled with the company's proprietary 3D-carousel user interface, which strongly resembles the highly-acclaimed SPB Shell UI.

Even though the phone's overall design, including the plastic used for manufacture, is nothing spectacular, Alcatel is known for its competitive prices, so Android fans can be sure that the One Touch 995 will be cheaper than other similar smartphones.

Rumor has it that Alcatel One Touch 995 will be priced at 200 EUR (275 USD) without contract, and will even go for free at some carriers, but customers will have to commit to a long term agreement.
