Lots and lots of device manufacturers seem to believe octa-core is the way to go these days. One of them is budget device maker Alcatel, which has just rolled out a new tablet bundling such a chip at IFA 2014.

The device goes by the name Hero 8 and arrives with an 8-inch display with 1920 x 1200 resolution, which is certainly a plus.

The powerhouse of the device is a MediaTek SoC, which is an octa-core MTK 8389 chip clocked at 2.0 GHz per core working with an MT6290 LTE chipset.

If this isn't interesting enough for you, let me tell you the tablet is apparently extremely thin, measuring just 7.3mm / 0.28 inches in profile.

Surely, the Hero 8 isn't as thin as the Xperia Z2 Tablet (6.4 mm / 0.25 inches) or Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and 10.5 (6.6 mm / 0.26 inches), but it beats the Apple iPad Air (0.3-inch / 7.5 mm) and the iPad mini with Retina Display (0.3-inch / 7.5 mm).

The tablet is fitted with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Plus it has Miracast, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4G and runs Android 4.4. KitKat out of the box. So basically, it's bundled with pretty much whatever your heart desires.

We don’t have any pricing info about the tablet just yet, but if Alcatel will price it competitively there’s a big chance this baby will sell like hotcakes.
