14 DAY TRIAL // MediaTek announced the first true octa-core processor a while ago and confirmed the first smartphones powered by its CPU will be released in the coming months.
Well, it appears that one of the first devices to come equipped with MediaTek's real octa-core processor will be Alcatel Idol X+, the sequel to the quad-core Idol X which is already available on the market.
According to GSMInsider, TCL, the company that owns Alcatel brand, will team up with Chinese online retailer JD.com for the release of the Idol X+.
Although the smartphone will be initially launched in China, we suspect Alcatel will want to make it available globally if Idol+ gets some traction in the Mainland.
The bad news is there's no telling when exactly the smartphone will go on sale and for how much. There's a high chance Alcatel Idol X+ will be showcased in early January at Consumer Electronics Show (2014), but we will know more closer to launch.
TCL Corporation also mentions on its Chinese blog that Alcatel Idol X+ features a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution.
Obviously, on the inside, the Idol X+ comes equipped with MediaTek's octa-core processor, which is complemented by 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory.
It is also said the smartphone will boast a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.
Even though the Idol X+'s specs are considerably better in comparison with the standard model, there's a chance they will be changed by the time it goes official.
It's unclear what version of Android the Alcatel Idol X+ will run out of the box, but it would be great if the smartphone will ship with Android 4.4 KitKat onboard.
We also expect the octa-core handset to be priced a bit higher than the quad-core model, but still remain in the affordable range of high-end devices. Stay tuned for more updates on this one.
