Canadian singer Alanis Morissette confessed she adores Eminem and his music, but especially his lyrics and his lack of censorship, although she disagrees with many of the opinions featured in his raps.
She explains, "I adore Eminem's lack of censorship. His music shows how anger expressed through art is so much less destructive than acting it out in day-to-day life.
"I don't agree with all of his opinions, but I don't think it's a matter of having to agree or disagree with him, as much as behold him. I can appreciate the place from which he writes."
Alanis's surname "Morissette" is of French origin. Her 1995 international debut Jagged Little Pill became one of the most successful albums of all time. The raw intensity of the album's first single, "You Oughta Know", led Morissette to be labeled the "first lady of rage", though the album itself contained only two songs that hinted at any sort of anger or resentment.
Since the extraordinary success of Jagged Little Pill, Morissette's popularity has waned as singers such as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera gained attention, though she is still one of the industry's premiere female singers/songwriters.
The influence of "You Oughta Know" is readily seen almost a decade later in the songwriting, singing, and attitude of singers such as Aguilera, Avril Lavigne, and Kelly Clarkson among others.(Wikipedia.)
