Slowly but surely more and more details about Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, the next installment in the shooter series from Remedy Entertainment, are beginning to appear, with new information now confirming that the downloadable title will have a Fight ‘til Dawn mode, similar to Gears of War’s Horde cooperative one.

Alan Wake impressed lots of Xbox 360 gamers from all over the world back in 2010, when it appeared for the console, and is now getting ready for its debut on the PC platform early next year. Besides the original title, however, Remedy is set to deploy Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, a downloadable spinoff that takes a more action-oriented approach to the regular gameplay of the series.

According to Oskari Hakkinen, the studio’s head of franchise development, this new strategy makes it a perfect fit for the Xbox Live Arcade, as it delivers a more mainstream experience, complete with even a special cooperative mode called Fight ‘til Dawn, in which players work together to take down legions of enemies, just like in other survival modes like Gears of War's very popular Horde one.

"After we were done with Alan Wake, our team started improving the engine and experimenting with ideas that came up during development," he explained to Xbox World Magazine, via CVG. "The team started doing wild things - testing ideas they'd been brewing - and we were having fun, so it kept ballooning.”

"Pretty soon we had this adrenaline-fuelled arcade action game with hectic combat and scoreboards, and the teams were competing against each other - we kept adding to it and it kept getting better. Before long it started looking like a perfect fit for Live Arcade."

Remedy already defended the idea of a downloadable Alan Wake title, instead of a full pledged sequel, and, from what we heard last week, American Nightmare is set to deliver quite an impressive experience considering it will be available just as a digital download.
