No word yet on whether or not the clunky system will be packed into the game on PC

Remedy Entertainment has revealed a few more details on the upcoming Alan Wake PC edition, confirming that it will be released on Steam using its Steamworks suite and that support for Microsoft’s Games for Windows Live system has yet to be decided upon.

While most PC game developers these days choose to use Valve’s Steam platform to deliver their titles digitally, as well as its Steamworks suite to provide extra features like achievements, cloud game saving and more, others also decide to pack in extra systems, like Microsoft’s Games for Windows Live, which, due to its buggy nature, hasn’t exactly been adopted with open arms by PC gamers.

With the upcoming Alan Wake PC edition, which was just announced last week, many gamers believed that it will once be saddled with GFW Live, what with Microsoft publishing the game on the Xbox 360.

That’s not so, as Remedy’s executive vice president, Aki Järvilehto told Rock Paper Shotgun that Alan Wake will be released on Steam and that support for other technologies, like Games for Windows Live, has yet to be undecided.

“Alan Wake PC will be released on Steam using Steam’s technology,” the Remedy executive said. “Whether it will support any additional technologies in the future remains to be seen.”

When pressed further, Järvilehto said that it would be unfair to give a concrete answer just yet, but did mention that his studio is focused right now on three platforms, the Xbox 360, for which the game was released initially and is getting ready to see a downloadable spinoff, iOS, on which Remedy already released Death Rally, and Steam.

“We don’t want to comment on other platforms,” he said. “Today Remedy are supporting three platforms; Xbox 360, Steam and iOS. Those are the platforms we currently support. Do we plan on supporting more platforms in the future? Well, who in the industry wouldn’t? With regard to the specific question about GFWL, I think it would be unfair to comment at that right now. “

Alan Wake is expected to arrive on the PC, as well as on the Xbox 360 with the downloadable American Nightmare, early next year.
