Remedy Entertainment, the developer of hit video games like Alan Wake or Max Payne, presents a special prototype gameplay video it made for Alan Wake 2 after finishing work on the initial game, depicting some of the plans it had at that time for the sequel. However, don't expect it to become a reality anytime soon, as it's still focusing on Quantum Break.

Remedy Entertainment made a name for itself back in the early 2000s with the innovative Max Payne shooters, and after selling the rights to the series to Rockstar Games, it partnered with Microsoft to debut Alan Wake for the Xbox 360. Since then, the Finnish studio has worked with Microsoft once more for Alan Wake's American Nightmare, a standalone expansion, and for the upcoming Quantum Break game that's set to appear in 2016.

New footage shows what Alan Wake 2 might have looked like

While the studio emphasizes that it's quite busy with the upcoming time-bending action game, it's released a special gameplay video depicting footage it's made to promote an Alan Wake 2 experience to potential publishers back in 2010.

The footage, presented via Polygon, shows a more experienced version of protagonist Alan Wake, who's much more adept at taking out the forces of darkness. New mechanics that affect reality depending on what things players write are also depicted, as well as some features that eventually arrived as part of Alan Wake's American Nightmare.

Don't expect a sequel anytime soon

Don't expect most of these ideas ever to become a reality, as Remedy mentions that it hasn't thought about Alan Wake 2 ever since starting work on Quantum Break. However, once the new title is ready for its 2016 launch, it might actually deliver a sequel with new ideas.

"The team and the work is very much focused on Quantum Break," Remedy's Sam Lake says. "We are living in Quantum Break land and enjoying ourselves, but at the same time we are in a place where we are starting to look into the future and starting to have discussions about what is next. Among other things, we are discussing the possibility of an Alan Wake sequel with multiple partners, but nothing has been decided."

As such, while an Alan Wake 2 is quite far from entering development, you can still enjoy a 13-minute glimpse at what could have appeared in it. Bear in mind that some spoilers are present about Alan Wake and American Nightmare.
