Ford’s CEO Alan Mulally has been considered one of the leading candidates for the CEO position at Microsoft for months, but it turns out that the board of directors is looking at some other names right now.

AllThingsD is reporting that the committee in charge of finding a new CEO for Microsoft wasn’t pleased with the recent comments that Mulally wants to stay at Ford, so talks have been started with other potential Steve Ballmer replacements.

At the same time, the report adds that Microsoft now wants someone with a bit more experience in the IT field, as Mulally has only minor connections with the technology world that the software giant is involved in.

Other candidates include former Nokia boss Stephen Elop and internals Satya Nadella, Kevin Turner, and Tony Bates. An announcement on the new CEO is expected by year-end.
