As the 2006 FIFA World Cup gets closer and closer, the German police start to take the necessary measures in order for all the fans and teams to stay out of danger.
Especially since, according to the last rumors, the Al Qaeda has announced that a number of 21 games will be targeted during the whole competition.
Although it may seem as a bad joke for most of us, this is no time for taking risks, especially when it comes down to the World Cup. As a response to those threats, the German Police will form a special force squad, with clear and precise responsibilities concerning World Cup matches security only. The squad will most likely gather about 120 policemen, some of them with international and secret service experience.
The teams Al Qaeda put their eyes on are probably the ones whose governments have not yet retrieved their army troupes out of Iraq. Among those countries, Italy is one of the favorites for this year's competition.
Plus, the German authorities have already had a series of talks with the Iranian officials - Iran is also one of the competitors in this year's World Cup - concerning the fans that will be supporting the team all the way from Iran. The final decisions have not yet been announced, but it's more than likely that the Iranians who will come to Germany will be under a very close watch by the new squad. The security measures are expected to be pretty rough too, as Iranians are concerned.
