Some book geeks might have taken up reading on a digital device due to sheer convenience. One has to admit that it's much easier to carry a light-weight device around than to stuff your backpack with heavy traditional books.

Anyway, those who appreciate books not only for their content, but also for their aesthetic qualities, might be interested in taking a look at the AkuninBook eReader.

The eReader has been launched by Russian author, Boris Akunin who has pre-loaded the device with a selection of his work plus other additional content. Anyway, the digital reading machine is actually based on a prototype designed by the Chinese company Onyx.

It comes sporting a 6-inch HD E-ink touchscreen and is powered by a 1GHz CPU with 512MB of RAM backed up by 4GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD). It runs Android 2.3 out of the box and is compatible with multiple eBook formats and MP3 files.

And now for the fun part, the eReader comes in a fancy cardboard box and ships with a beautiful leather cover, so it will give users a pretty distinctive feeling. It actually makes me think of the little boy in Never Ending Story who stole the magic leather-covered book from the library.

The AkuninBook is available in the Onyx website for about $193 / €140 and you should know there’s also an app companion that can be found in the Google Play Store too.
