Akademy (formerly written "AKADEMY"), the annual KDE World Summit, will be held in Belgium next year, from the 9th to the 16th of August.

The KDE World Summit will take place at the De Nayer Institute, an associated campus of the University of Leuven, located in the Flanders region of Belgium. The activity will be split in three sub-events: the KDE e.V annual general assembly, a contributors conference and a hacking session.

Akademy is a great opportunity for the community members to discuss all KDE-related issues face-to-face. A local team will organize the conference, assembled by Bart Cerneels and Wendy Van Craen, whose proposal to host Akademy at Sint-Katelijne-Waver's De Nayer Institute was chosen by the KDE e.V membership. The institute is also among the increasing number of KDE users.

Patrick Pelgrims, coordinator of the Bachelor in Electronics/ICT curriculum stated: "We will be happy to receive the KDE community at our campus. They are the creators of the amazing software platform we use to educate many young people in the world of Electronics, Computer Engineering and Embedded Linux."

The KDE Contributors Conference will be held on a time span of two days, on August 9 and 10. The next day, on Monday, the KDE e.V General Assembly will take place, and from 12th to 16th, a coding marathon will be run. Also in this period workshops, tutorials and BoF sessions are planned.

In 2007, Akademy took place in Glasgow, Scotland from June 30 to July 7, at the University of Strathclyde with a similar program as the one that's taking place in Belgium next year. The center of the conference was the future release of KDE, version 4.

There is still a dire need of people to help organize Akademy, so people with good management skills and business relations are welcome to join in.
