Actress and new mom wows on the red carpet at the AmfAR gala

Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai, who won the title of Miss World in 1994 and who is still referred to as the world's most beautiful woman (it's not hard to understand why), recently made headlines for not losing the pregnancy weight. She defied and silenced all her critics last night.

As we also reported earlier this week, Rai gave birth in November and, unlike many (read: most) celebrity moms, she chose to dedicate herself to motherhood instead of focusing on dieting and working out.

This explains why she's still carrying some of her pregnancy weight, which, for some fans in her home country, was enough to lambast her for “betraying” them.

The stunning 38-year-old landed in Cannes the other day, putting in an appearance at the prestigious AmfAR charity gala.

You can see one of her red carpet photos attached to this article: she might not be as slim as she was before she became pregnant, but she's breathtaking.

By honoring her commitment to attend the gala and pose on the red carpet, despite of the nasty things that have been said and written about her online by these so-called “fans,” Aishwarya has sent them a very loud message: she will not be told how she should look or what should be more important for her, her child or her weight.

More photos of the actress looking stunning in an Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla design can be found here, at the Daily Mail.

No word yet on how those communities “campaigning” to get Rai to lose the pregnancy weight have reacted to her latest appearance but, judging by how they've acted so far, chances are it won't be nice.

“Aishwarya is like a goddess. She is held up as the ideal of beauty and so there is an expectation on her to look perfect at all times,” showbiz columnist Shobhaa Dé said earlier this week, trying to explain the negative reactions to the star's rounder figure.

“The role models being held up are Angelina Jolie and Victoria Beckham, but our body frames are different – we have wider hips and curves – so this whole business of looking desperately skinny two weeks after giving birth is a western import,” Dé added.

Obviously, Aishwarya Rai is staying true to herself no matter what others are saying.
