Tired of spending so much time at check-in gates whenever you're traveling by plane? Windows 8 comes to the rescue thanks to a new concept that helps reduce passenger check-in time to no less than 2 minutes.

How is this possible? The Dubai-based low-cost airline flydubai has apparently found the answer, as the company developed its very own touch-based Windows 8 application that can help significantly reduce time needed to check in passengers at the Dubai International Airport.

The carrier hasn't provided clear specifics on the way the app works, but it does mention that the Windows 8 application, which is only running on tablets, is connected directly to the backend services of the airline, while also working directly with a passport scanner and a printer.

Company employees can thus scan passports and get passenger information on the go, while also being allowed to assign seats and issue boarding passes faster.

“It is under increasing pressure to deliver improved quality of service while tackling productivity and workforce shortage challenges. The Windows 8 App developed for flydubai is a regional first, enabling staff to check-in passengers on-the-go,” Michael Mansour, directors of Apps and Innovation at Microsoft Gulf, said.

Of course, Microsoft hopes that this is only the beginning of a completely new trend that would see many more airlines adopt similar technologies and boost the adoption of Windows 8 tablets in airports.
