doubleTwist has announced AirPlay Recorder for Android users, a free app that saves songs and radio stations from iTunes to their Android phone.

The app works like this: you play something in iTunes on your Mac or PC and select “dT Recorder” from the AirPlay device list, as shown in this handy guide.

doubleTwist AirPlay Recorder will then instantly begin to record and save the audio in digital format to your Android device.

doubleTwist explains that “Due to the nature of AirPlay this is a real-time process: a 4 minute song will take 4 minutes to record.”

The app will only save a track if the recording is complete, which means that if your connection is not stellar, you may end up with failed recordings. doubleTwist recommends the 5GHz band, or Wi-Fi 5G.

This is the basic AirPlay Recorder app, but there’s also a premium version that offers higher quality recordings (AAC VBR).
