A follow-up to the joke about iOS 7 waterproofing your device

It’s not uncommon for people to mistake a real Apple promo from a fake one. Especially when they’re put together in a way you can hardly tell them apart.

The “waterproof” thing from last week is a perfect example of how these types of jokes can go wrong. Some people were actually convinced by the fake ad which said, “In an emergency, a smart-switch will shut off the phone's power supply and corresponding components to prevent any damage to your iPhone's delicate circuitry.”

Now there’s an AirDrop farce making the rounds on 9gag, and it’s even more ridiculous than the previous one.

AirDrop is a file-sharing feature, but its nomenclature can also suggest other things. Such as, “AirDrop protects your iPhone from falling damage from up to 1.5 meters.”

The fake ad goes to explain that, “Once falling movement is detected, sensitive components switch off preventing damage. Clever use if the iPhones [sic] high speed vibrate function ensure [sic] it lands face up, protecting the glass screen.”

Just in case I didn’t stress this enough, AirDrop will not protect your phone from drops. Only common sense will.
