On Saturday, I reported on how air pollution in Singapore had hit the highest level on record, all thanks to wildfires in Sumatra. As mentioned at that time, people in Malaysia are not exactly having the time of their lives either.

Turns out air quality in this part of the world is so bad that high officials were left with no choice except declare a state of emergency.

International Business Times reports that forest fires burning in Sumatra have caused the country to be blanketed by a thick haze.

Since breathing in the smoke can trigger several health problems, it was agreed upon that schools located in the country's most affected regions should remain closed this Monday.

Unless the situation improves, odds are they will remain closed in the days to come.

The fires wreaking havoc in Sumatra were started by workers who wanted to clear the land. The workers thought that they were doing the right thing, but the situation soon got out of control.
