Aion Glitch Makes Players Drown in Cash

The economy may be slowly getting back on its feet, but it looks like some are a lot luckier in the money department than others. After all, it's not every day that money falls from the sky and ends up in their mail box by the trillions. True, it's a virtual sky, a virtual mailbox and virtual money in a MMO, but as an old saying goes, don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

A few Aion players on the Azphel server woke up with over 34,000,000,000,000 kinah (that's Aion for dollars) in their mailbox as a reward for taking part in occupying Krotan Refuge. As many of these lucky gold getters figured it out on the spot, this was a glitch, and one that would soon be mended, so Azphel action houses went mad with transactions, as everybody was desperately trying to sell and buy stuff before things got fixed.

NCsoft got word of this little glitch pretty fast, and they immediately started to work on a “cure.” “Earlier today we began to receive reports that a small number of players on the Azphel server had received over 30 trillion Kinah as part of a reward glitch. Since that time, we’ve brought down the Azphel server and have been working diligently to identify how to restore economic stability,” said Tamat, the Aion Community Manager.

But by this time, a lot of money was sent from player to player via mails, many items were purchased and the kinah exchanged hands so often that it was practically impossible to trace each of them to be accounted for. So, the solution to the glitch was a rather drastic one. “We’ve made the decision to rollback the Azphel server data to 6:00am CST this morning and will continue to monitor all servers for related anomalies,” posted Tamat.

“It’s important to understand that we saw the rollback as a last option and made every effort to avoid doing so. We’re currently performing the rollback and anticipate the server will be back online at 10:00pm CST. At that point, all character progression on Azphel will be restored to its state as of this morning.” To try and make up for their mistake, as well as for the consequent rollback, NCsoft will grant Azphel players five Lodas Amulets sometime this week.
