Video game developer Funcom has announced that launch of House of Crom, a new free update for the MMO Age of Conan: Unchained, allowing both those who play the game for free and Premium subscribers to enjoy new locations and new adventures.

The update allows players to explore the remains of a temple that was created by the ancient civilization of the Atlanteans, ready to face off against the ancient evil that has plagued them.

House of Crom allows players to access two huge dungeons, one of them social and one of them instanced.

The social dungeon allows multiple groups to raid at the same time and cooperate in order to succeed and the developers are saying that the two new areas are the biggest indoor space created for Age of Conan.

Craig Morrison, who is the game director working on Age of Conan, has stated when the announcement was made that, “We are very excited to see such a great reaction from the players. ’The House of Crom adds a large number of new encounters and content for our veteran players.’

He added, “With a truly epic location, and amazing atmosphere thanks to the phenomenal lighting advances possible with the DreamWorld engine, we genuinely feel that there are few that can match ‘Age of Conan: Unchained’ when it comes to this type of content update.”

The original Age of Conan MMO project was launched by Funcom in 2008 and some saw the game as a real challenger to the supremacy of the Blizzard made World of Warcraft but after selling more than 1.4 million copies at retail the game failed to sustain momentum and quickly lost subscribers.

Funcom relaunched Age of Conan, with the Unchained subtitle, as a free-to-play title during 2011 and has quickly managed to attract more than 2 million players.
