There are many voices claiming that Ago of Conan: Hyborian Adventures is the title that could take the throne of best MMORPG from World of Warcraft. Although a few years behind and with a different, more "mature" approach to the
game, Age of Conan really is a competitor to the throne. It will probably remain like that since the WoW-mania seems hard to beat at the moment, but that does not matter too much.

What matters is that Funcom's MMO will be officially, fully released tomorrow, on the 20th of May (with a 23rd of May release date set for Europe) and the game is already sold out almost everywhere. In a press statement earlier this day, Funcom proudly announced that all the Collector's Edition had sold out weeks ago and extra copies had been ordered - only to sell out, as well. Also, the regular pre-order campaign is working great and the developers are having trouble already due to server limitations and lack of physical copies of the game!

All in all, 111,000 Collector's Edition units have been sold since January and no less than 700,000 regular units are expected to be sold only in North America on day one. No matter if we're talking about a MMO or an offline game, these numbers are really impressive. And, since they're probably going to grow as soon as people start talking about the game, Funcom has decided to order extra servers in order to facilitate handling more customers.

"Everyone in Funcom is delighted and humbled with the historical pre-order numbers for Age of Conan. If the information we have is correct, they represent the highest pre-order number for any global launch of an original PC game, ever, including the original World of Warcraft launch," said Morten Larssen, Funcom's VP of Sales & Marketing.

So, it seems that battle is on! Might good old World of Warcraft lose in front of the Cimmerian?

If you're going to write an article please try and be even slightly objective. You can't fore tell the doom of another well established MMO on projected sales. You do realize that numbers can also face plant due to people talking about a game, expecially in the MMO genre? or is that more propoganda.

This article unabashed fanboism. As an early access player i can say unequivocally that features are massivly unfinsihed, game mechnics are 8 year and older throw backs, the first 20 levels are linear boring experience with none of the freedom of movement MMO customers have come to expect spoon feeding you content and ruining immersion through a slu of load screens and heav heavy instancing that makes the game feel like a standard single player RPG affair. The 'revolutionary' combat mechanics have played straight into the hands of the people sporting G15 gaming keyboards and other gaming specific periferals and have removed balance as much as you can without down right stating 'you need these periferals or those that have them will walk all over you'.

I see they also failed to mention unfinished PvP mechanics (or rather PvP mechanics so antiquated that even when they were bought into the MMO genre 8 years old they were summarily discarded in favour of somthing else), a client so heavy on CPU/RAM & GFX processing power that 80% of PC owners won't be able to play this at all. Later server starts, last minute charges by funcom for early access, no access at all to official forums for none subscribers. 700,000 units shifted to stores - NOT sold through.

This game is at best an updated version of the aging EQ2, it is not a step forward, it is a step back with a hefty face lift on the GFX that will sucker people into believing it's 'next-gen'. I hope you got this article from the FunCom spin department, because the journo writing this should be shot if he's writing this from a third party perspective.

Pseudo objectivity. Your own reply reeks of a bitter animus. Use some of your own vaunted ‘objectivity’ on your own reply.

My god, did you even read the article? For one, it was written a day before it was officially released... Two it's mainly quoting sales numbers! How is that not 'Objective'? Not once did it even say in the article that the writer has even played the game! It was purely an article mentioning the anticipation for the game!

'80% of PC owners won't be able to play this at all'
80% of PC owners can't run Crysis either! Guess what, those 80% either upgrade or don't buy it! You want them to make a game less 'graphic heavy' just so you can play it?

If your going to reply to an article at least be a bit less fanboyish.
True AoC may have some problems at the moment but so does almost every game! why do you think there are patches. Nothing is perfect especially that bit of crying that you call a reply.
