PC gaming is definitely not dying, as a lot of developers and publishers in the industry might say, largely due to the fact that MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games), like World of Warcraft or Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, still make a lot of money from people who own a PC platform.

Another key title among the new generation of MMOs is Funcom's Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, which uses the fantasy setting of the famous Conan franchise. Although not extremely popular, the game is going pretty strong, even if Funcom decided to merge a lot of the servers due to the high maintenance costs.

Now, in an attempt to make the game more open to new players, the company has just announced having launched a free trial of the game, which allows players to experience the adventures of the title from 7 to 14 days. Some retailers will also offer special codes in order to unlock various items for the people who are using it for free.

“The time has finally come for us to open the flood gates,” said Morten Larssen, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Funcom. “There is a world of gamers out there who have never played ‘Age of Conan’ and we want them to experience what hundreds of thousands of gamers have before them. The game has matured tremendously since launch, and we feel confident that this is the time to launch a trial. ‘Age of Conan’ is simply bigger and better than it ever was, and we want both new and previous players alike to experience that!”

Those who want to get in on the multiplayer action can visit this site where they can download the free trial client from various mirrors across the world. Hopefully, this will bring new paying subscribers for the mulitplayer game, but not as many as an Xbox 360 version could have, edition that was debated on various forums some time ago.
