Andre Agassi began his journey through the last US Open of his career. The American living legend had no easy job in the 1st round, since Romanian Andrei Pavel
really managed to put some real pressure on the former ATP No 1. Cheered by a sensational crowd, Agassi battled through the game and clinched a spot into the 2nd round in a 4-set thriller.

The first set did not go well for the American. Pavel battled through into the tie-breaker and proved to be stronger than Agassi. Once being one set down, the crown really began to do its job. The second set went down pretty much the same, but Aggasi made all the difference in the tiebreak this time. He won it 10-8 after almost an hour of play.

The third looked like a disaster for Agassi, who was 4-0 down after the first 15 minutes. Suddenly he changed rackets and won 5 games in a row. He forced the Romanian into tiebreak and, taking advantage of his break-down, clinched the third with almost 3 hours on the clock.

He then easily moved 4-0 in the 4th and rallied through a 6-7, 7-6, 7-6, 6-2 win in 3 hours and 31 minutes. The victory was more important as it was his last first round on the tennis court.

"I really want to leave my best stuff on the court. I feel the pressure and excitement of trying to bring the best out in myself. To come out there and get through a difficult one ... I'm very proud of this day and I'm glad it gets to happen again", he told the crown after the game. He will not have an easy job in the 2nd round, though, since he'll meet Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus.
