Apple recently made headlines for buying a GPS company called WiFiSLAM that offers indoor-mapping services, and now the Mac maker is hiring an iOS Location Analytics Software Engineer to develop, implement, and validate hybrid location algorithms.

The iOS Location Analytics Software Engineer will design and architect location services and analytics software framework for Apple.

Among the tasks, Apple also mentions, “Develop, implement, and validate hybrid location algorithms (cell tower positioning, WiFi positioning, etc.) and build the infrastructure scalable to provide these services to millions of iPhones, iPads and iPod touches.”

The job advert immediately brings to mind a recent acquisition by Apple Inc. to offer indoor-mapping services. This new position seems to be directly tied to the WiFiSLAM acquisition. WiFiSLAM uses WiFi signals to pinpoint a handset's position in a building.

The advert also states, “Prototype, experiment, and productize software to power our next generation of iOS devices.”

Looks like this guy will be among the first to see the next-gen iPhone and iPad.
