Tale of revenge and darkness

Samuel L. Jackson is the perfect leading man if you have a screenplay involving a cursing, tough and cynical African American. If you add a bit of a revenge tale and a lot of sword fighting, you might just end up with the biggest hit in cult martial movie history since Kill Bill Volume 2 hit the movie screens.

I only serve to underline the importance of the videogame industry that instead of a movie, Samuel L. Jackson is set to star in a videogame that tells a story of samurais, death, betrayal and quite a bit of revenge by way of the sword. The game is called Afro Samurai, developed by Namco Bandai, and is based on a manga series create by Takashi Okazaki sometime in 1999, which was latter turned into anime series.

The game will follow the adventures of Afro, who will be played by Samuel L. Jackson, as he tries to get his revenge on Justice, the best sword fighter in the world. When Afro was a child, Justice killed his father and, in the process, became immortal by human standards. Afro is still set on following him, killing his henchmen and finding a way of killing Justice himself.

The look of the game will be more manga based than those of other PlayStation 3 games, with the cell shaded graphics set to offer a dark world, a world where justice is nothing but the name of the villain. The fighting portion of the game will be equally over the top, with impressive and mostly impossible moves performed by all characters, a bit of dismemberment here and there and, apparently, some beheading taking place.

The RZA, of Wu Tang Clan fame, will provide the very dark hip hop soundtrack the game needs in order to immerse the player in its dark story. The RZA has previously worked on the soundtracks of movies like Kill Bill: Volume 1 and Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai so his music should add much to the game.

The game will debut sometime in autumn on both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 gaming consoles.
