US-based carrier MetroPCS has quietly launched a new budget-friendly Android-powered smartphone manufactured by Chinese company ZTE.

The ZTE Score M is now available for purchase for only $49 after a $30 mail-in rebate. The smartphone is compatible with the carrier’s $60 per month with Rhapsody and $50 per month plans.

Although the Score M comes with the lowest hardware configuration possible, at least it offers customers the new features and improvements of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform.

Aside from that, the smartphone only stands out for its basic features. The carrier describes the smartphone as “sleek and stylish,” but that’s a matter of taste after all.

Furthermore, MetroPCS claims “ZTE Score M is your practical way to stay in touch.” Another positive feature of the phone is the fact that it provides access to more than 450,000 apps via Google Play Store.

It is also worth mentioning the Score M comes with a medium-size 3.5-inch touchscreen, but there are no details regarding the quality and resolution support for the moment.

On the inside, the smartphone is equipped with a 600 MHz single-core processor. It packs an unknown amount of storage and RAM, and microSD card slot for memory expansion.

The carrier also confirmed the Score M would be shipped with a free 2 GB memory card in the sales package.

According to MetroPCS, “you can easily type and send texts, picture messages and IM. Plus, the Score M offers Wi-Fi connectivity to keep you connected while on the go.”

There’s also a 3.2-megapixel camera in the back, which lacks LED flash and possible autofocus as well. Other highlights of the smartphone include: Bluetooth, MP3 music player, email support, video recorder.

That’s about all we know about MetroPCS’s ZTE Score M budget-friendly Android smartphone, which is available for purchase here.
