Good news for Indian mobile phone users who wish to switch from a feature phone to an Android smartphone, as XOLO is about to launch an affordable handset within the next couple of days.

Dubbed XOLO A500s Lite, the smartphone has been listed on the Indian company’s official website, along with its price tag. Potential customers will be pleased to know that, in order to grab the XOLO A500s Lite, they only need to come up with Rs 5,499 ($95 / €70) upfront.

The bad news is we don’t have any details on exactly when the smartphone will go on sale. However, we expect the A500s Lite to be available from multiple online retailers in the coming days.

Aside from the low price, the only other selling point of the A500s Lite is the thing that XOLO advertises on its official website, the leather finish of the smartphone.

In order to give the phone a stylish look, the back cover seems to be coated with a leather-like material that gives a nice and comfortable feeling to the touch.

Specs-wise, XOLO A500s Lite is far from being impressive, but it wasn’t intended as such anyway, so let’s see what customers would get if they decided to go for this affordable device.

Well, first of all, the A500s Lite will ship with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box. The device is highly unlikely to get an upgrade to KitKat in the future, so keep in mind that you will be stuck on this version of Android forever.

On the inside, the smartphone is equipped with a 1.3GHz dual-core MediaTek MTK6572 processor, which is complemented by a Mali-400MP graphics processing unit and only 512MB of RAM.

XOLO A500s Lite sports a rather small 4-inch WVGA (480 x 800 pixels) capacitive touchscreen display. On the back, the affordable handset packs a subpar 3-megapixel camera with video recording, while in the front there’s a secondary VGA camera for video calls.

The smartphone comes with only 4GB of storage inside, but users will be able to further expand internal memory up to 32GB via microSD card slot.

It is also worth mentioning that the XOLO A500s Lite is powered by a 1400 mAh battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer. A decent range of connectivity options is included as well, such as: 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and microUSB. Keep in mind that the smartphone offers dual-SIM capability as well.
