After having launched its Jelly Bean Konnect 5.0 smartphone earlier this month, Indian telecom Swipe announced the immediate availability of two new Android handsets in the same family, Konnect 4 and Konnect 4E.

Both smartphones are now available for purchase via Swipe stores, as well as major retailers across the country. Potential customers can now buy the Konnect 4 for Rs 4,490 ($75 / €55), while the Konnect 4E costs only Rs 3,750 ($60 / €45) outright.

Swipe has confirmed that the Konnect 4 and Konnect 4E will ship with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, but did not say anything about any possible OS upgrades in the future.

The good news is that Swipe has recently released Android 4.4 KitKat for Konnect 5.0, which was launched earlier this month with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean platform onboard.

This means that there’s a chance that the smartphones announced today might eventually receive an upgrade to KitKat as well. However, until Swipe confirms it, this remains a simple assumption based on previous experiences.

Still, the main issue for Swipe to release Android 4.4 KitKat for Konnect 4 and Konnect 4E would be the fact that their specs are much lower than Konnect 5’s.

That being said, let’s see what these affordable smartphones have to offer. First of all, the phones offer dual-SIM capability with dual standby support, fonearena notes.

They also come with dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz and 4GB of internal memory (only 512MB for Konnect 4E). As expected, both Konnect smartphones include microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB), as well as FM radio function.

Konnect 4 and Konnect 4E sport similar 4-inch capacitive touchscreen displays that support 480 x 800 pixels resolution. Now, here are some of the differences between the two smartphones and the reason they have been priced differently.

Konnect 4 packs a 3.2-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a VGA front-facing camera, while Konnect 4E has a 2-megapixel main camera (LED flash included) and VGA secondary camera.

Moreover, the former features 512MB of RAM, whereas the latter comes with only 256MB of RAM. Also, when it comes to connectivity, the Konnect 4 offers 3G support, but the cheaper Konnect 4E only supports 2G (EDGE) networks.

Last but not least, both smartphones are powered by a 1500 mAh battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer. Are you going to pick one of these two affordable smartphones?
