Indian OEM Max Mobile has just introduced two new entry-level Android smartphones, the Maxx AX51 and AX505 DUO. Both smartphones are now available for purchase in India for Rs. 9,999 ($165/€120) each.

According to fonearena, the smartphones can be bought from Max Mobile’s online store, but they are likely to go on sale through multiple major retailers across the country.

Specs-wise, Maxx AX51 and AX505 DUO are similar with one exception: the former comes with 3G connectivity, whereas the latter only offers EDGE support.

As expected, both smartphones ship with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box. Max Mobile won’t offer any major updates for Maxx AX51 and AX505 DUO, so keep that in mind before getting these.

The good news is that both smartphones sport large 5-inch capacitive touchscreen displays. It’s true, the resolution could have been better than 480 x 854 pixels, but for those who want a cheap device, this should do.

On the inside, Maxx AX51 and AX505 DUO are equipped with 1.2 GHz dual-core Mediatek MT6572W processors, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

The phones pack low-end 3-megapixel rear cameras, which should be enough for occasional use, but they also come with secondary VGA front-facing cameras.

Those who decide to pick the Maxx AX51 will also be able to make/take video calls thanks to the secondary camera in the front. We can’t say the same thing about Maxx AX505 DUO, which doesn’t come with 3G connectivity, so the only way you can use video calls is via Wi-Fi.

Other highlights of the smartphones include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, dual-SIM support, 1700 mAh Li-Ion battery and 3.5mm audio jack.

It is also worth mentioning that Maxx AX51 features a signature of Indian skipper M.S. Dhoni on the battery hood, and is also known as MSD7 3G.
