Indian OEM Intex has just announced two new additions to its Cloud family of budget-friendly Android smartphones, the Cloud X1+ and Cloud Y11.

According to AndroidOS, both smartphones will soon be available for purchase in India via major retailers across the country. Intex Cloud X1+ has been priced at Rs 2,990 ($75 / €55) outright, while the Cloud Y11 will go on sale for just Rs 4,490 ($50 / €35).

Intex’s new Android smartphones target the entry-level segment, so you shouldn’t expect any impressive features to be included. Aside from the fact that both handsets come with dual-SIM support, there aren’t any specs that would possibly appeal even to someone looking for a cheap smartphone.

One of the major disappointments is the fact that both devices will ship with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread operating system out of the box, which is really bad even for an entry-level device.

There are plenty of other choices in the same price range that offer at least Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, so there’s no reason to pay the same price and get something older.

Anyway, those who are still determined to grab any of the two Intex smartphones should know that they both pack 2-megapixel photo snappers on the back, while the Cloud Y11 also features a secondary VGA front-facing camera for video calls.

Hardware-wise, the better of the two is Cloud Y11, hence the slightly higher price. The smartphone comes equipped with a 1GHz dual-core processor inside, 256MB of RAM and 512MB of internal memory.

The device also features microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB) and a decent 1400 mAh battery. Intex Cloud Y11 sports a 4-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution. It also comes with 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity support.

On the other hand, Cloud X1+ is powered by a 1GHz single-core processor, which is complemented by only 128MB of RAM and 256MB of storage. The handset drains energy from a 1250 mAh battery and packs Wi-Fi and EDGE support for Internet browsing and data transfers.

“Cloud X1+ and Y11 are specially designed for first-time smartphone users who want to do away with their feature phones. These devices come embedded with advanced features to enhance the user’s overall experience of a smartphone. These phones are a perfect blend of style and technology at rock- bottom price,” said Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, business head of the mobile vertical at Intex.
