14 DAY TRIAL // Chinese company Gionee has recently launched a range of Android smartphones in India, which seem to have been pretty popular if the handset maker has decided to release another one.
The new P2S can’t be compared with the other Gionee smartphones recently launched in India, such as the Elife E5 and Elife E5 mini. The P2S is more in the same range as the Gionee CTRL V5 that was made available in India about a week ago.
Still, Gionee P2S has its target and that’s people who have never owned an Android smartphone, or those who can’t afford a more expensive one. The Chinese company has officially announced that the P2S is available for purchase via its Indian eStore for only Rs 6,499 ($110 / €80) outright, which is really cheap.
Still, the low price comes at the expense of some features, so don’t expect Gionee P2S to offer any impressive capabilities or stunning performance.
According to fonearena, Gionee P2S ships with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box. Given the phone’s price tag and specs, we can safely assume that it will remain on this version of Android until it gets discontinued.
In fact, we suspect that Gionee has only ordered a few thousand P2S units to test the Indian market and if it proves popular, there will likely be a second shipment in about two or three weeks.
Gionee P2S is the successor of the P2, which has already been available for purchase in India for quite some time, so expect slightly better features than with that one.
Well, according to the official specs sheet, the Gionee P2S should be equipped with a 1.3GHz dual-core processor, provided by MediaTek, which is complemented by a Mali 400 graphics processing unit.
Obviously, it offers dual-SIM capability with dual standby support, and even more surprising, it comes with support for 3G connectivity.
This means that users will be able to make and receive video calls via the secondary VGA camera in the front. On the back, the P2S packs a 5-megapxiel photo snapper with LED flash and video recording.
On the inside, Gionee P2S packs 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card.
It is also worth mentioning that the affordable smartphone sports a 4-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution, as well as a 1600 mAh battery that has yet to be rated by Gionee.
