Gaming rigs tend to get bigger and bulkier these days. High-end graphics cards will soon require hundreds of watts to work properly and PSUs will offer more than 1, 5 KW for all those power hungry components. Because bigger does not always mean better, gamers are now taking into consideration the notebook segment more than ever. Although packing serious processing power, today's notebooks come at high prices and this does not appeal to the majority of gamers. As always, there has to be some exception to the rule, and we see this with ABS' Mayhem Blackhawk gaming notebook, which manages to deliver a really powerful gaming performance in only 3.8 pounds, at an affordable price.

ABS Computer Technology has recently made its Mayhem Blackhawk notebook line-up available in the US, and customers seem to be happy about this release. This is due to the fact that the basic configuration for the new gaming notebooks is available for only 1,499$, and it also comes with a free Logitech headset, not to mention the bundled Age of Empires III, Far Cry, and MS Works 2004 software

The basic configuration is powered by Intel's 2GHz Core 2 Duo T7200 CPU, includes 1GB of DDR2 memory, an 80GB hard drive spinning at 5,400rpm and an internal DVD burner. The graphics processing is handled by an NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT video card that is complemented by a 14.1" LCD display.

ABS offers several options in order to customize the basic configuration, and despite the fact that users can't get anything better than the current GPU, one could choose a faster 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo T7600 CPU , as much as 2GB of RAM, and up to 100GB (7,200rpm) without making the price jump the 2,000$ limit. All Blackhawk systems come with Windows Vista pre-installed, although users may choose to get the XP Professional or Home Edition.
