Alcatel recently unveiled a new entry-level mobile phone, namely the OT-S211, a device that will not be able to answer the needs of those who want advanced features from a handset.

The new OT-S211 comes in a classic candybar form factor and it doesn't look too bad, but neither too great. Among its known specs we have dual-band GSM connectivity (900 / 1800 MHz) with GPRS, a pretty small 1.5 inch CSTN display with 128 x 128 pixels and 65K colors, FM radio (with RDS, or so it seems), speakerphone, T9 predictive text input to help users write messages faster, an agenda that can store up to 250 contacts, an embedded game, calendar, alarm and (probably) other similar basic features. The battery included in the OT-S211 is a 670 mAh one that should keep the handset working for up to 5 hours in talk-time mode and up to 250 hours in stand-by mode. Not bad, if these numbers prove to be real.

Alcatel OT-S211 is quite small, measuring 98 x 44 x 12.6 millimeters (3.85 x 1.73 x 0.49 inches) and weighing only about 65 grams (2.30 ounces). At these dimensions, the phone will fit in almost any pocket, hence it will be easy for users to carry it around.

Apparently, the new Alcatel will also have a GSM version to work in North America, on the 850 / 1900 MHz frequencies - a good thing, both for Alcatel (which will sell more units) and for those North American users who might need basic-featured handsets.

The exact release date for Alcatel OT-S211 was not announced and neither was its retail price. Anyway, considering the fact that its specifications are on the low-side (there's not even a photo camera included), the handset's price can only be a very affordable one.
