Hulu was down for almost an hour

Hulu was described as the potential YouTube killer since it comes with impressive content from NBC and other media partners, all of them joining forces for the defeat of the Google video sharing service. But sometimes, a simple unexpected thing is enough to change all your plans and instead of being a YouTube killer, you quickly turn into an ordinary service. Although it wasn't so severe, Hulu was affected by a 1 hour outage last night which caused an impressive 404 error on its official website. Michael Arrington from TechCrunch confirmed the product went back online at approximately 2 AM PST, the entire service being unavailable for almost an hour.

I'm not sure this is so important because Hulu's outage can be easily explained by the private beta label which is usually including errors and downtimes. Moreover, Hulu is currently available only in the US and its downtime occurred during the night when only a few consumers could access its page. Maybe Hulu's developers set up the outage? There's nothing official yet, so let's stop the speculations.

Hulu is one of the YouTube rivals which aim to attract the consumers with licensed content coming from its partners. That's why you can view famous TV series straight on Hulu's page including Family Guy, The Simpsons, Prison Break, The Pretender and many other videos.

In comparison with Hulu, YouTube is almost entirely based on the user-generated content uploaded on its page because it has an incredible community which is continuously bringing clips for its database. In the past, several market researches proved that YouTube is one of the top attractions for the users looking to publish their homemade clips while the majority of users is attracted straight by those videos. However, we have to wait a while until Hulu becomes available for all the users because at this time, it cannot be considered a YouTube rival.
